Conformal Field Theory
CFT is a theoretical framework that describes the behavior of quantum field theories on curved surfaces. In a CFT,the symmetry transformations that leave the underlying physics unchanged are those that preserve angles & scales, known as conformal symmetry
One of the key features of CFT is their connection to critical phenomena,which are phase transitions that occur at the boundary between different phases of matter. Eg: It can describe the behaviour of a 2-D material near its critical temp,where the material changes from liq-gas.
Another important application of CFT is in string theory, where it plays a central role in describing the behavior of strings in a curved spacetime.
CFTs have also found applications in condensed matter physics, where they can be used to describe the behavior of materials at the interface between different phases, such as the boundary between a superconductor and a normal metal.
